“Advanced wireless network scanner”

by Cyril Roger

These days, it seems it's hard to be somewhere which doesn't offer wireless networks to connect your computer to. AirRadar is an application which will allow you to scan for and connect to wireless networks nearby.

I found the application easy to work with. Select the scanner option, then press the 'Start Scan' button (slightly hidden at the bottom right). Networks will start popping up in your list. You can also use the search box if you know the name of a network.

You can create your own list of favourites, or filter out those that you don't want to see. Unfortunately, AirRadar doesn't allow you to drag and drop networks from the scanner tab to either favourites or filter. You'll have to enter them individually every time.

The graph section is fairly basic and will display both signal and noise levels. You can use it to monitor which network to connect to based on performances.

AirRadar is a basic wireless network scanner. A good simple alternative to Apple's network preferences.

Scanning for wireless networks is now easier and more personalized! AirRadar allows you to scan for open networks and tag them as favourites or filter them out. View detailed network information, graph network signal strength, and automatically join the best open network in range.

Whether you are driving around looking for wireless networks, stuck in traffic, sitting on the beach, or if you are curious how strong your wireless signal is at home, AirRadar provides a more linear approach to network hunting. Setup a scan frequency, and have new open or closed networks have their name spoken, play alerts, or display notifications.

Various other options allow you to customize your network list further, including assigning colors to best open networks and sound cues. The best part — AirRadar is absolutely free! Download it today, and take the hardship out of getting an internet connection at a critical time.
